A new friend and some other stuff

I love vintage sewing machines! They are functional works of art and I continue to be amazed by them. I was at my local Goodwill looking for something completely unrelated and a young guy walked through and said "Where do I put this sewing machine?"...UMMMMMMM....WHAT...

It was in a case and I just about jumped the poor kid to ask if I could see. He put it down and this was what was inside :o)

It was $15.99 and I had a 20% coupon...HAPPY DANCE!!!!! She works perfectly but needs a good cleaning and a few new bits.

The second thing I came across was some much needed storage for my sewing room, I have stuff EVERYWHERE and this china cabinet is perfect for the space and again who does not LOVE a good deal with a 20% off coupon!!! Some white paint and new pulls...it is just what I needed!

My sweet girl is now looking like a young lady with her first hairstyle! SO...NOT...READY!!!!!!

And finally, someone super sweet sent me some FABULOUS fabrics for Christmas {thank you Sara } and I am hoping to have a project finished up tomorrow to share.  Michael is leaving in the morning so I am trying to spend all the time I can with my sweet guy!!!! It has been so nice to have my sweet son home!!!

Hope you are having a GREAT week :o)

A happy little Christmas Eve bundle

I was very happy and surprised when this made it to my house this afternoon! It is the giveaway I won from Heather at Olive and Ollie. Man, that was FAST!!!! Thank you so much Heather!!!! Katy is already claiming some of the fabric as hers :o)

I do not have any of these fabrics which makes it super fun!!!!

And I took a break from ironing my son's shirt to flip through the book and I can see some projects I really want to try. Hopefully Santa will bring me an abundance of time or at least some more coffee ( cream and sugar please)!!!!

Thank you so much Heather for a great giveaway and for taking the time to send it so quickly during the busiest time of the year!

Attention to detail {a review and a giveaway}

If you have ever been in the military, been married to someone in the military, or just known someone in the military you have probably heard how important  "attention to detail" is to everything. There is a thread company that also has high standards for it's product line.  The company is Aurifil  and I have been lucky enough to have been able to use this fabulous thread for the past couple of weeks to see if it really is wonderful and I am happy to report that it is all that and a bag of chips!

Here are the projects so far...

Today I am finishing up these stockings for the kids

The table runner I made last week, even through burlap and batting no issues!!!!! And no I STILL do not have ornaments on my tree :o)

I used it on my Bernina 440 to play a bit. My Bernina has hiccups with some threads when I do free motion quilting but...

BEAUTIFUL and no worries about skipped stitches!

I tried this thread on my sweetie pie old Singer 301...

and she LOVED it!!!!!

and this is the thread I used on this cathedral window pin cushion

Look at those beautiful stitches!!!!

I also am using it for the fishy friends quilt but I have to make time for that after Christmas.

The nice people at Aurifil sent along this set of thread so that you can try it too! And did I mention this thread is sexy? It is from Italy and I am also convinced that EVERYTHING from Italy is sexy,LOL!

and since it is hard to try new thread without having some new fabric I am also including this charm pack from Moda!

On the sewing table today

Getting Bree's little bundle of goodness ready to ship!

I remembered that I have a library card and decided to find some inspiration, which was much needed when the great news of my water pump needing to be replaced was sprung on us yesterday!

This is an amazing book! Elizabeth Hartman has done a great job in giving very good advice and fantastic quilts! I highly recommend this book!!!!!!

Last but not the least by any stretch of the imagination...HOLY COW!!!!! I LOVE this thread!!!!! I have been using it on my most recent projects and there will be a post and something else...wink...wink so stay tuned :o)

Hope your weekend is awesome!!!!

My favorite holiday tradition is actually Black Friday shopping. My step-mom & I have been doing it for 15+ years, back when the stores first started making a big deal out of it.

Cathedral Window Pin Cushion {pattern}

Do you know how to make a Cathedral Window Pincushion? Many many years ago I found a great way to try a Cathedral Window with one simple useful square! I wanted to make a gift for a sewing friend and thought she could use a pincushion.  Who does not love a pretty pincushion!?!

After many years and many variations, I found the perfect and easy way to make the pincushion and it is now available as a pattern in my Etsy Shop

You can make these for yourself or they make fantastic gifts for ALL of your sewing friends! After you make this pincushion, you will have the confidence to take on more projects that use these elegant blocks!

Super quick Christmas burlap table runner {tutorial}

My Christmas gifts came super early this year. The first was in October when I was able to go see my son, my beautiful daughter in law and my two grandsons. The second will be home in about and hour!!!!!! So, instead of cleaning, I decided I need a table runner for the dining room table that had to be expanded to accommodate an extra person.

I saw this tutorial for a burlap table runner from Lindsay at Living With Lindsay and decided that a little Kate Spain was in order to make it perfect for me!

Using the measurements from her post I decided to go with the 14 inch width and measured my table for a length of 108 inches. I cut my burlap ( after washing it) accordingly, grabbed some linen, my Kate Spain 12 Days of Christmas, some batting and some backing fabric ( I think it was Kona snow) and off I went!

This was my table before. The chairs will be painted black...someday...and my tree is up but has not been decorated yet...so much to do but back to the table runner

After taking the measurements for your table choose three (or more) of your 2.5 inch strips. I happen to have a jelly roll so it made it even EASIER!

Sew the strips together

You now have your strips done

Iron them flat

Cut the attached strips to 16in

I cut a piece of linen, you can use any cotton or even velvet....ooooooooh, that would be lovely! and attach your strips

cut a piece of batting

Quilt however you wish. Using my invisible marker, I choose to do 1in lines on the linen and stitching on either side of the strips. I left the edges of the green undone until later.Simple!!!!

When quilting is completed attach the burlap.

After the burlap is attached I finished off the green strip

Cut out the backing pin the top to the back

Sew around the entire runner making sure to leave an opening to pull it inside out. I think I left a three inch hole.

Turn the right way out and topstitch the entire runner

The after shots that are not very good but Tuesday is my running around to different kids functions day so I must apologize for the poor quality.

SUPER easy!!!!

Off to see my baby boy and give him big hugs!!!!

Saturday sharing of Pyrex, fishy friends and a wee review

Tuesday Morning, the store not the actual day, I LOVE...love...love. For one thing they have Playmobil for reasonable prices and secondly, they have sewing gadgets that I would never pay full price for at any other store.  I have been trying to blindstitch. Anyone that knows me knows I avoid hand sewing like the black plague. I will do anything NOT to hand sew. I have bad eyes and arthritic fingers ( wahmbulance anyone) so I will find ways around handsewing. I love when other people do it. It is beautiful and takes a certain something I just do not possess. Maybe that is called patience ;o) On to my new gadget...

I am working on a gift for someone and have decided I love them SO much that I will attempt this hand sewing thing once more.  I was almost completed with the project (there will be a tutorial on this, it is CUTE) and got to the handsewn part and I could not thread the needle!!!!! I could not even SEE it with my glasses on! This is what I found to help...

It has two little led lights on the opposite that are worthless! I tried this last night and they provided NO light at all!

You can stand it on a table or hang it around your neck. I hung it around my neck and it was very easily adjustable.

It really does help with making things clearer and BIGGER!!!! Look at the pretty Aurifil thread!  I am really happy I found this product! I can recommend it for the $9.99 I spent! Thank you Tuesday Morning!

Onto the Pyrex that I completely lucked into!!!! The Buttercream set!!! Happy Dance!!!!

Finally, I was able to add some fishy friends, and I am super excited since I will be using that beautiful Aurifil thread on this quilt and I need to get the top done so I can :o)

Hope your Saturday is a great one!!!!!
