A treasure in Richmond, Virginia

I have had a friend Jeff FOREVER or at least since I was 32 which is really about the same as forever!
We met in San Diego when we were both working in the Historic Gaslamp Quarter and we would go have lunch almost everyday with a group of people. He ended up leaving and moving back to VA, met a beautiful woman and she agreed to marry him :o) Years later we found out that we too were relocating back to VA. Not the same city but we figured out that a short drive away is the middle, Richmond, VA! Now we can get our families together and I am so happy!

We decided to meet up at Maymont. It is a beautiful place and if you ever get the chance to go, it is well worth the stop!!!!

These goats have figured out how to try to get more attention and food.

The horse drawn buggy with the bridal party :o)

On top of the world...

Lilly pad jumping!

And what fun is any trip when a child does not fall into the water! It was super hot so she dried out quickly

Being there inspired me to try a new idea but I cannot seem to find this print... if anyone knows where I can find some could you please send me a message!!!!! Thank you :o)

It is Alexander Henry Sumie (ink drawing)

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!!!!!

Small steps of progress

Finally some good progress!!!! Finished a hooter hider for my sweet daughter-in-law and her expecting friend today!!!!!

Used the great tutorial from Freshly Picked. Very clear instructions so if you need a good shower gift or one for yourself, I highly recommend this one:o)

I have no idea how to take decent photos of a nursing cover. They are not great subject matter to photograph so here are my best shots...

I am so smitten with the Alexander Henry Koto, I cannot look at it enough!

Heather's friend really likes blues and greens ( Amy ( Lou Who) I thought about you while making this one) so I chose something from Amy Butler Daisy Chain. Because we all know that no one rocks the blue green combo better than Miss Amy ( both Butler and lou who)!!!!

Hope you are having a productive sewing day!!!!!

Necessary and fun sewing

First off and most important... Joel Dewberry, I adore your fabrics!!!!!! I know there is Amy Butler Moon Dots in there too but that is because they go with flippin EVERYTHING!!!!!! It is almost a mortal sin to sew a quilt without some color of Moon Dots :o)

I know we all have those necessary sewing projects that we must do. Not that they are not fun or we would not do them at all. I needed to make some little travel bags for my trip this week to see my grandsons ( meeting Blake for the first time) but decided to make diapers instead. I finally got around to sewing ONE bag.  ONE!!!!!!!!

This is how it turned out

Inside

Pretty sad considering I need three more and shoe bags to boot :o(

But instead of doing my bags I decided to start on another quilt! Mind you I am leaving in three days but  I could not resist these beautiful Joel Dewberry fabrics just asking to be sewn into something. Funny when the mood strikes it can be like a lightening bolt!

So I decided on the cute zig zag pattern using half square triangles on a quilt is nice.

So I drew my lines. Do not look at the bottom I was listening to DMB Crush and well I was all distracted, what can I say ;o)

sewed 1/4 inch on either side of the corrected drawn line

Cut the drawn line with my handy dandy rotary cutter

And then started putting the zig zags together which I think is way fun!!!!

So that is as far as I have gotten with the quilt this week. I am happy with my progress and I am looking forward to finishing it in the next few weeks.  Until then , I have some bags, some bibs and a hooter hider to sew...I'd better get crackin!!!!!

Sewing buddies :o)

I am very lucky to have friends that sew. I am not so lucky though because they all live so far away we rarely, if ever, get to sew in the same room. Sometimes I have the opportunity to have my sewing friends come over and with all the kids around we at least get to talk sewing and share some beautiful fabric and some projects that are in the works.

This past week I had a visit from Amy Lou Who. I am sure I mentioned how we met at the local Costco over her bag ( please get the pattern done on that so I can make it). She had just found out she was having a girl!!!!!! And she was buying the sweetest little onsies. She was beaming and beautiful (as always). We have been friends ever since.

My Adam had skipped lunch and so he was in a mood when we finally got back to the house. I made chocolate chip cookies and that seemed to help :o) Chocolate chip cookies are magical!!!!!!!

Amy brought me some fabric for me and some cuteness from my new grandson (  I get to go visit him next week!!!!!!) The owls are ab fab!!!!!!

By the time she and the wholets had to go Adam's attitude had changed significantly and he was not wanting them to go (me either)

I am going to have to make the trip down to see them at their house this summer because our time was just too short but even when they do stay longer it still seems too short...

Love you guys!!!!!!!! Thanks for visiting!!!!!!

A small favor...please...

Some of you may remember this top. I made it about four weeks ago from the Jamie Dress pattern. I didn't care for the skirt portion of the dress so I turned it into a top!!!!

Well, my dearest Sara convinced me into submitting it to a contest at Made By Rae.  Sara always is so encouraging that way :o)

Now the favor...

I am gobsmacked that I made it past the first round of voting and am overly excited!!!!!!

I did a shorter version also but  I submitted this one to the contest. The voting is today. If you could please go to  VOTE HERE for my top I would very much appreciate it!!!!

Thank you so much in advance!!!!

What I am doing instead of what I should be doing

What I should be doing is working on the set of accessories for my luggage to go visit my grandsons in Oklahoma in two weeks. I found a great tutorial for a box pouch on the plaid scottie and another on see kate sew. Thanks ladies for great inspiration!!!!!

I cut up a super wool suit and used some fabric that Sara sent to me ( lurve you Sara) that makes a great contrast!

I am very excited to finish these and add a simple make up bag and some shoe bags for my runners! My son is quite the cook so I will NEED to be running while I am there.

So that is what I should be doing but instead I am side tracked with something so cute I could not resist!

Fitted cloth diapers for the grandsons!!!! My daughter-in-law has decided to try cloth diapering ( I am jumping up and down) and so I found this pattern at Handmade by Rita. Who does not just love a free pattern!!!! I printed it up and gave it a go and I really like it!!!!! The flannel are easier to make and handle but I like the knit and velour feel much more.

I am hoping the grandsons like them!!!!!

If you have not entered the giveaway I am leaving it open until about 6pm ( or a bit later depending on when I get my run in)...so do not forget!!!!!!!

Back to diaper sewing I go...
