Are you planning on joining a BOM for 2013?

Are you planning to join a BOM or two or three...possibly four?

I found a few I am joining just to keep me accountable for getting my big arse in line. I have been slacking off and having too much quilters ADD and too many UFO's and WiP's...NOT COOL!

The first is with Pat Sloan and the Aurifil Design team for 2013!!!!  They are doing pieced blocks using Pat Bravo's Rock and Romance line this year so I am ALL IN!!!!! To see all the talent for this year ( you are gonna LOVE the line up) click HERE

The second is from Elizabeth at  Don't Call Me Betsy. A paper piecing BOM for stars!!!! AWESOME! There is a small fee but so worth it for these amazing stars!!!! To join this one ( I need to do it TONIGHT) click HERE

The third is from AnneMarie at Gen X Quilters and is the Sisters Ten modern BOM. Slick as shite and looking so forward to this!!!! To join this one click HERE

And there is one more that I will be Alyssa from Pile O Fabric Skill Builder BOM. Learn a new skill or  practice an old one or learn a new way to do the old one,LOL! To join this one click HERE

This should keep my design wall full and me outta trouble...maybe ;o)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Cannot believe that I have not posted since before Christmas, with the kidlets and the in house engineer at home I guess I just have lost track of time and then I have had the cold of the CENTURY! I was kind enough to share with at least two other people of the house so they have been giving me the stink eye for a couple of days now...

2012 was an amazing year for me!

I am over the  moon about the Cathedral Window pinnie tutorial making the Moda Bake Shop 2012 Top Ten List!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!  Go check out the other fantastic tutorials listed...and CONGRATULATIONS to the other designers!!!!!

The best thing about 2012 for me was being able to meet and hang out with so many other sewers. The quilting community is a wonderful place, filled with the most lovely, supportive and FUN people you could ever hope to know and have in your life!

And they make faces like this!

and share screens with you like this

I was lucky enough to have one more sewing playdate at my house right after Christmas. Amy, Katie and Becky were able to come over, hang out, eat cookies! The kids were on best behavior (did I mention there were cookies) and the mamas had a great time chatting and sewing. I look forward the new year and being able to spend time with my friends!

and where else could I find friends like this?

Handmade for a special teacher

My son's teacher is an amazing woman! She is a mom of boys, she is in charge of 20 5-6 year olds, that must be like cat wrangling most days, she manages to teach them something and send them home with a smile every single day!  The only gift I made this year is for her. The planning of  my gift making will be different next year, I will plan better and hopefully not have a house FULL of sick people for three weeks...we'll see how that one works out ;o)

I used the pattern from Noodlehead  the Open Wide Pouch. It is a great tutorial and very easy to follow for anyone making a pouch. It has TONS of photos for the visual learners like me (I am a SHOW ME girl). This only took me a couple of hours even with the cutting, piecing and ironing of the front. Great gift! I used linen with Michael Miller Cotton Couture solids (FAB COLORS), my favorite Magic in the Middle (tee hee hee, I just LOVE saying it) Pellon Craft Fuse to give is some body on the outside and sewed it up with Aurifil 40 wt, I used it since it is a bit heaver than the 50 and this will (hopefully ) be used A LOT! The accent topstitching is Aurifil 28wt. I am starting to appreciate the thicker threads and how gorgeous they look as quilting and topstitching.

I hope she likes it!!!!!

LOVE the Aurifil 28wt!

And a little something for inside the pouch ;o)

I really hope she likes it and knows how much we appreciate her!!!!

My Christmas Hippie Chic Bus Pillow!!!!

I am happily in LOVE with my new Christmas pillow!!! I used the free pattern from Tula Pink to make this scrappy fun addition to my holiday decor!!!!!

I also learned something NEW!!!! One of the things I love most about learning to sew is trying new ideas. I realized that you can print on Pellon Wonder Under!!!!! It works just like freezer paper and now I do not have to trace ANYTHING!!!!! This a a bonus for me since I cannot draw a straight line with a ruler ;o)

Cut your Wonder Under the size of your paper

On my printer I put the bumpy side up

Prints out PERFECTLY!!!!!

Then you have your perfect little shapes and NO Tracing!!!! My friend Lisa at That Crazy Quilty Girl says do not do it on a laser printer...something about a HOT MESS!!!!!

When I had all the pieces ironed on , I outlined with Aurifil 28wt in black.  To make it look more like snow I used Aurifil 40wt 2311 and a little bit of fmq and I think I found the effect I was looking to achieve!

Not perfect quilting but I am happy I had a practice run on this before starting a larger project.

Adam helped me do the BIG Swirls on the back, poor guy was so sick and REALLY wanted to help so he sat on my lap and we quilted :o) I am a very lucky mama!!!

This makes me SMILE!!!!!

One down {Believe at do.Good Stitches}

I had my stitches out over a week ago and the doc put me on a no sew for a little more...not completely healed :o(  I was able to get this block completed on Thursday!!!! I am so excited. It was difficult to get used to sewing with no feeling in my finger (nerve damage) but I think I am getting the hang of it :o) This is an improv block for my Believe bee at do.Good Stitches. I just have one more to go :o) I am so in love with this block!!!!!

I was also able to start my New Year's sewing room reorganization early and do some much needed painting!!!!!

I have been wanting to do this for a LONG time!!!!!

I am cutting ( okay not ME) these boards down to fit into the hutch for more fabric storage!!!!

I will post more photos when I have it all together :o)

Back in the saddle again!

I am so ready to SEW!!!! I decided the best way to tackle this would be to take small steps and have guidance.  I love paper piecing and it has lines to follow so I cannot mess it up...right?

I picked up the newest issue of American Patchwork &Quilting at Costco last week

I found my inspiration to make something! Small and manageable with no worries if I mess up since it will be staying with me! These are seriously SO DANG CUTE!!!!

I was VERY careful using the sharp scissors and managed to keep all my other digits safe from harm!!!! I had some Kate Spain 12 Days of Christmas still waiting to be loved and knew this was the perfect project for those lovely pieces of fabric!

My first attempt

My second attempt

I have learned that I cannot sew a straight line yet even when it is printed on the paper,LOL :o)  I also realized that my left index finger is very important to my sewing!!!! I will practice more so that I can hurry up and get my bee blocks completed.  Those require a little more perfection than I can manage at the moment.

I'm Number ONE!!!!!! ( PSA and graphic post warning)

This is my story from yesterday, my PSA for all the sewers and quilters that do things a thousand times...come rain or shine...sometimes sleep deprived...sometimes just a bit distracted from kids or television ( do I hear Downton Abbey or Twilight in the background?) or deadlines that we place on ourselves ( Yes, Amy,Sara and Lisa...this includes YOU!)...I  was the number one idiot!!!!!

I was working on my do.GoodStitches blocks in the most beautiful colors.  I woke yesterday with a throbber of a headache so was kinda out of sorts even beginning my day.  I should have known better...I did know better...but I could not resist these cuties...and I wanted to be on time this month...

I was trimming the little ends on this one...

With this blade...

And that is when it happened...
*************WARNING GRAPHIC PHOTO*************
***PLEASE DO NOT LOOK IF YOU DO NOT LIKE GORE***

I did not yell, cry or throw up...I did say a four letter word and grabbed the paper towels...I called Amy and then cried since I was having a SH***Y day and then decided I did need to go to the er...

*******NO FABRIC WAS RUINED IN THIS ACCIDENT*****
We all know what is really important ;o)

I waited around for quite a bit and had AMAZING support from my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter friends...I cried about that later too...I really am a VERY LUCKY girl!!!!!

Now I am the owner of four stitches in my finger. My biggest disappointment  is that I am not sewn up with Aurifil thread! I asked and they had NONE!!!!! WTH!?!?

The bonus is that the PA that did my stitches gave me the scissors to bring home!!!!!! SCORE!!!!!! The bag cracks me up!!!!

Today, being the planner that I am, I decided to figure out what color of Aurifil thread I am, order it and if I ever have this happen again, I am prone to accidents, I can go in prepared!

Really, I can't sew and this seems like a fun thing to do, LOL!

I am somewhere in between 2420

and 2410

But I think it would be super fun to have these variegated  threads as stitches!!!!!

Please be careful in your sewing!!!!!!
