Five Things About Me

There have been many posts pre Quiltcon called Five Things About Me. It has been so much fun reading everyone's five things especially since many of us only know each other online through Facebook, IG, and Flickr.  I am a little late to this game because I honestly cannot think of five INTERESTING things about myself,LOL!

So here is goes and I am still hoping I can come up with five...

Number One... how I met this guy...

The handsome young pilot                                                     Me

Over twenty-five years ago, I was in the Navy, I was stationed at NAS Miramar in the same hanger as Top Gun although I came into the squadron right after the shooting of the movie ended. I was Plane Captain which is also known as a glorified service station attendant for aircraft. I was in charge of inspecting, servicing, moving, launching and recovering jets.  It was pretty cool and I would not change any of that experience for the world.

The in house engineer was waiting for a spot to open in flight school, he had just completed AOCS ( think Officer and A Gentleman ladies) and was stashed in our squadron.

The squadron was in the process of moving hangers and so they had the lowings ( meaning me) moving boxes from Hanger Two to Hanger One. I was going topside to grab some more boxes and ran into this dashing young pilot I had never met.  I said hello and looked at the patch on his flight suit to find out his name...LOL!!!!!  He noticed I was looking and said "I bet you cannot pronounce it."  I said " Give me a minute."... I dusted off all the French and Spanish I had taken in high school to remember the non American way to pronounce things and gave the correct pronunciation...he fell in love with me at that moment...he had to...it was written in Polish law somewhere ;O)

I had run into him a few more times and one day caught him stalking me from the opening topside...watching as I was swabbing the hanger deck ( glamourous work).  Later that day he slipped me a note asking if I would be his Cinderella and included his phone number... I need to let it be known that our dating could have gotten HIM kicked out of the Navy.  It is fraternization and was, at that time, frowned upon. I had to call and know more about this guy...who wouldn't?

We set a date and I was very nervous about him getting found out and very much in trouble but he reassured me that it would be fine.  He showed up for our date wearing Groucho Marx glasses and had a pair for me too...yup...he was the ONE!

Number Two
I can turn my tongue upside down in both directions. I was obviously very bored at some point in my life to figure out I had this amazing talent.

Number Three
I am 8 hr Hazmat trained. This happened after getting out of the Navy. I had a great friend that was studying Environmental Engineering at SDSU and she had to go and did not want to go alone so she signed up for me to go with her.  I ended up working some hazardous household waste collections in San Diego to make a few extra dollars. It was fun and I got to wear an oompa loompa suit!

Number Four
I was a cheerleader in High School. It was short lived but I did it ;o) I cam the second base in from the left :o)

Number Five
I jumped off The Clam in La Jolla, CA. This was before it was a felony and it was CRAZY ASS STUPID! You can only jump when it is high tide and the waves are in, I misjudged and hit bottom and seriously sliced my foot, it is not very deep. That did not stop me from climbing up and trying again...ah youth...

So, those are my five things. I am really looking forward to meeting so many of the friends I have already made here online!!!! See ya in a few days!!!!!! Now I need to pack...GAH!

Great story.. very similar to mine. DH and I met in the Navy. He was a flyer (not a pilot) he was aircrew, and I was a Yeoman. We had just come off deployment, and he was trying to meet me, so he was carrying cruise boxes up to the second deck box after huge box just so he could say hi.. I was busy working so was totally not even noticing him. Until my friends said someone liked me.. then I noticed!! LOL.
