SEWjo Saturday 3 ( Winner announced)

Welcome everyone!  I hope you have all had a great week with NO SNOW and lots of sewing!  If not, come join me in see what all of our friends have been doing and getting inspired by their successes :o)  I may not have much to share this saturday but I am looking forward to seeing lots of crafty goodness from y'all!

I did make these that I forgot to share. First is the funny panty block from the tutorial by Penny from sewtakeahike.  This one CRACKS ME UP!  I did add the side and bottom bands to my panties.

I also tackled doing paper piecing with LEATHER!  The gold lace section of the bra...LEATHER!  It is from Lindsay's shop LRstitched and is so easy to sew.  I was careful with the ironing but other than that it was no more difficult to sew than regular fabric.

I did forget to share that I made my very FIRST pillowcase! It was for the APQS 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge!  One case takes very little time and helps out a sweet child who needs comfort.  There are THIRTY NINE free patterns to choose from to make a fun case.  I was dropping off my Bernina at my local quilt shop Quilt and Sew and found out they are a participating shop in this event.  Kiki even provided the fabric ( and the guidance to make the case).  She is so COOL!  Thank you Kiki!!!! To find a shop that participates near you please visit All People Quilt Find A Shop.

I am an official member of the Modern Quilt Guild!  I need to get that button UP on my sidebar!  Are you a member of the MQG?

Finally, here is the incentive for this week to link up...the chance to win a sample set of all the weights of Aurifil and two charm packs of Spirit!!!!! One random winner will be chosen from the linked posts :o)

Let's get our SEWjo (sewing mojo) going!  This link up will be open from Saturday through Sunday to give you LOTS of time in case you need to do silly other stuff like make dinner or driving your kids somewhere and then there is always making sure you have good lighting. The things we all have to go through...sigh ;o)

To participate in the party please...
1. Share a project from this past week or TODAY!!! Link it up from your blog or, if you do not have a blog, your Flickr photos. It can be a  FABULOUS finish or a WIP ( any progress is always good)that you are working hard to get off your sewing table!

2. Share a link back to SEWjo Saturday somewhere in your post. I would be over the moon if you grabbed the button and shared that too ;o)

Cathedral Window Pincushions! So many lovely sightings!

I have seen so many GORGEOUS pincushions made from my free Cathedral Window Pincushion tutorial from way back in December 2011 and also from the tutorial I did for Moda Bake Shop in 2012 where the free pdf is available. Both are free and so simple!   I was so happy that I was able to make something so beautiful and so easy to share with everyone.

I made one today for my friend Pat Sloan.  She sent me some of her new fabric line "One For You One For Me" for Moda to play with and I simply COULD NOT RESIST making a pincushion with this happy Spring like fabric.  I did the topstitching with my workhorse Aurifil 50wt in beautiful white.

These beautiful pincushions were made by Debbie by Happy Little Cottage, she even has them in her etsy shop so if you are not ready to tackle one yet, you can still have one of your very own :o)

This one was made for a swap from Leanne from she can quilt

These were made with sweet fabric buttons by Amy  from Eamylove

If you have made one of these fun pincushions from my tutorial either from my blog or Moda Bake Shop... THANK YOU!  It makes me feel so good to see all of the sewing happening :o) And please let me know if you have made one( or 1000)  I would love to share some more of these lovely pinnies made by YOU!

Snips and snails and puppy dog tails!

Baby boys are so wonderful!  Baby girls are very amazing too ;o)  I have three boys and two grandsons so I always look forward to sewing for boys.  This past year  a friend of mine had a sweet baby boy and I have been so late in making a gift for her new bundle of joy.  Last weekend I dug out the fabrics I loved the most from when Adam was a baby and I made some fun bibs for this special little guy.

The pattern is my free Best Bib on the Block and the fabrics are Heather Ross, every child should have fish, Michael Miller, Wild Blue Yonder ( MY FAVORITE boy print EVER), Moda Malibu Monkeys, a Japanese planes print ( the in house engineer was a pilot and I was in Naval Aviation, so I kinda have a thing for planes) and Dear Stella Confetti dots that go with everything under the sun.

Dot minky backed for extra softness

I had fun with my Bernina decorative stitches again.  Only because fish should have bubbles!

I am thrilled that I have these completed and I hope mama and baby love them!

SEWjo Saturday 2 ( winner announced)

Good morning!  I was hoping to have this up earlier.  We had a spend the night and this girlie is not accustomed to two more kidlets in the house.  The six year old set decided sometime in the night to go watch tv and I found them at 5am on the sofa, sitting straight up, ALSEEP! Kids crack me up!

I hope you all have had a great week and are going to have a productive sewing weekend!  All of your posts were so motivational.  I was inspired all week to get something completed.  It was very cool, thank you :o)

I joined  The Sisterhood of the Traveling Quilt and my block was due in January( I am a bit late).  I always over think bee blocks.  I always over think everything but especially bee blocks.  I finally decided last weekend that I knew the PREFECT blocks to make...

From the book Vintage Quilt Revival by Katie Clark Blakesley, Faith Jones and Lee Heinrich I found the Rosey Windows Quilt.  Katie had talked about this quilt and when she asked the question " What could you do differently?"  My first thought was FUSSY CUT!

So, I did :o) I fussy cut some sweet Heather Ross and Munki Munki bits to make these wonderfully easy, very colorful blocks for my traveling quilt block.

and TA DA!

This week, to enhance MOTIVATION,  I am giving away a mini set.  There are four mini charm packs and a mini Omnigrid kit ( how cute is that set).  I will choose a random winner from the link ups!

Let's get our SEWjo (sewing mojo) going!  This link up will be open from Saturday through Sunday to give you LOTS of time in case you need to do silly other stuff like make dinner or driving your kids somewhere and then there is always making sure you have good lighting. Bras and shirts and PANTIES...OH MY!

I am over the moon about this fun and SUPER easy bra paper piecing pattern that also happens to be FREE on Paper Panache.

I was on task with my already long overdue list of to-do's and then I saw this fun shirts swap ( pattern by Carolyn Friedlander) on May Chappell's blog and I  was like SQUIRREL!!!!  DANG IT!!!! So, I had to share the post everywhere I could because if I am going down I want company!

When I posted it on my Facebook page, I immediately had many GOOD FRIENDS joining me on my journey of paper piecing fun.  Of course, being the dear ones they are ( I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!), one ( cough cough...Heather Valentine) offered up the bra pattern...I had to make it right then and there!  It took no time at all and I already have plans for some more.  I would like for you to make one or two also and hang on to them...I will explain that in an upcoming post.

Can't you see it in GOLD LEATHER!  Lindsey from LRStitched sells this creamy, yummy leather in her etsy shop !

Another pattern that was graciously posted was this free pattern and tutorial for panties  by Penny from Sew Take A Hike. CUTENESS Panny!  Great job and thank you for the pattern and the tutorial!

Who's this? Quilty friends, gifts included!

Part of the reason I love sewing is the community that comes along with it.  A group of people that come from all walks of life, all parts of the world, every age group from the grandmothers ( yes, I am proudly in this group) to the teens just starting out.  There are experienced quilters that love to help you out when you get stuck and need a sounding board, Pat Sloan was my first OMG I AM STUCK reach out to a quilter I never met and she responded immediately!  ( I was more than a little gobsmacked) She assured me that what I was doing was correct and gave me great advice..." Have FUN!"  I have LOVED her ever since.  I cannot imagine sewing without being surrounded by my sewing friends both in real life and in my virtual sewing room.  It is great to be able to share on the blog , Instagram, and Facebook.  I know I can count on so many friends to say, "That looks great!,  " We are behind too" or " I know how that feels".  I love to be able share in what all of my friends are working on too.  The inspiration you all provide is invaluable to me.  You guys are awesome and I am the luckiest girl in the world!

Sometimes, when it is not snowing all the time,  I do get to meet up with some of my real life friends.  We have sewing playdates at houses, guild meets up or just go to Ikea for a quick bite and some fabric ooohing and aaaahhhhing.  This past few months have been especially precious to me since my sewing friends have even been visiting from other states to share with me the sadness of my boy leaving for deployment to Afghanistan last year. He will be home in about eight weeks and I am beside myself with excitement!

This past week ( before the snow) I was able to drive up to DC to see Katie and Laura and then I also was able to visit with these girls!

There was a sewing playdate set up on Monday but with me being me I forgot to check if I had the correct address. I did not and so I missed out :(   Tuesday these three FAB friends made the trek to may part of the world and we had a quick trip to Joann Fabrics and then off to Wegmans for lunch ( If you ever want to see Amy Lou Who...tell her you are going to Wegmans...she will show up) .  Karie from twoqwikquilters made the sweetest hexi mug rug ( I will be not using it a s a mug rug but a mini)

and Becky, Sarcastic Quilter, made the cutest little fabric box.  I had my choice and I chose the  Japanese robots! It is perfect to have as a pin catcher right by my Bernina so I do not step on anymore pins.

THREE CHEERS for Safety!!!!  Thank you so much Karie and Becky!  I love ya!!!  I love you too Amy ;o)

Thanks to all my sewing friends that help me to keep my sanity!  LOVE Y'ALL
