The Splendid Sampler Block 24

The Splendid Sampler Block 24 is by Michele Foster from Quilting Gallery.  Inspector Sidekick is a cute block that lends itself to fussy cutting!  Anytime there is a space in the middle, I am drawn to plopping a fussy cut right in the center!

I made this block in blue for the fun #bescrappy I am playing with on Instagram with my friend and amazing quilter Susan.  Monday is a new color so be on the lookout for what is next! The background fabrics are Moda, the blues are a variety of whatever was in my blue scrap bin and the center fussy cut is a sweet Japanese fabric I have had in my stash for years! I did take this fabric off the shelf to cut just the piece for the center. It is just perfect for this block!  All of my piecing is Aurifil 50wt for perfect piecing :o)

I am behind in my blocks because I was out of my background fabric.  There is nothing worse than LOVING a fabric line and then you cannot find it when you are needing it!  I had visited two local quilt shops to see if they had the Modern Background by Zen Chic for Moda Fabrics I had fallen in love with for this quilt.  Neither shop I visited was carrying this line in the color I needed.  GAH!

My good friend, epic quilt teacher and fabric enabling friend Debby Brown sent me a message that Spool ( a FAB local quilt shop located in Chattanooga, TN) and owned by The Bad Ass Quilter herself, Maddie Kertay, was having a sale on just this very fabric!  I LOVE my online quilting friends!

I gleefully ordered and when my package arrived it was so special!  All of the fabrics were wrapped in beautiful paper, there was  also a pin and a coffee mug ( OMG!!!!!  I LOVE COFFEE!!!)

The most special thing about this package is this hidden and handwritten thank you :o) I was not expecting this at all.  This is a business that wants to know that their customers matter.  That we are special to them.  I know I feel special!

The next time you are out of a certain fabric and your local quilt shop is not carrying it, check out other local quilt shops online that are offering fabrics. Try to support local whenever you can :o)

I love your block, especially as BLUE is my favourite colour. When I got to the end of your post I thought the red and white zig zags was your backing fabric and I thought 'that's a bit wild' for the Sampler quilt, until I realised it was the wrapping paper, haha.
