WIP Wednesday Tula Pink 100 Modern Quilt Blocks

Last week I posted my entry for The Blogger's Quilt Festival on Wednesday instead of sharing my quilt blocks.  You can see the quilt I entered for the Scrappy Category here.

This week I am posting my blocks for 100 Days 100 Blocks.  The fun sew along happening on Instagram, hosted by Angie from Gnome Angel. We are using Tula Pink's 100 Modern Quilt Blocks.

These are a small sampling of what I have made in the past two weeks.  I have more but decided against sharing them all today because I have so many! I will probably have a second post tomorrow with more :o)

First up this week are the fussy cut blocks.  I am attempting to make 100 fussy cut blocks. Not sure if I can manage 100 unique scrappy blocks from my stash but I am going to try!  These are all scrappy and really super adorable!

I stumbled upon this fun house fabric from Birch Fabrics.  It is out of print but reminded me of living in Southern California!

These  Japanese fabric robots were on two five inch squares .  I was thrilled when it worked out just right for fussy cuts!

Denyse Schmidt and Heather Ross or Munki Munki always work perfectly together!

No fussy cut quilt is complete without Heather Ross gnomes!

I just had to have a block with fun lipstick!

The second set are the up cycled garment blocks.  All of these blocks have been made using thrifted garments, garments from our closets and also now, I have quilty friends sending me garments they were not using! Thank you so much!!!!!

The ombre in this block was the left over pieces from the bigger ombre block.  I am trying to have no waste with these blocks!

I am trying not to choose favorites but this one makes me so happy! The log cabin is tiny! The strips were only 3/4in!  I love sewing tiny!

This one has the a gorgeous shirt fabric from Bonnie Hunter!  She went through her up cycled garment pile and sent me some beautiful pieces !  Thank you Bonnie!

This block has two diagonal cut log cabins from the big red quilt!  It looks super cool!

All of my blocks have been pieced with Aurifil 50wt thread using my Bernina 440 QE.  I use Aurifil for perfect piecing.  The thin but strong thread guarantees my 1/4 inch seams are really 1/4 inch          ( unless I mess them up).  It is also almost completely lint free making my machine run better longer!

I am still behind with my blocks and will be for a little longer ( sew what is new...LOL).  If you want to keep up with my daily posts of go-go goodness you can find me on Instagram as gogokim!

What WIP's are you working on this week?

Monday Motivation {Free Christmas Ornament Patterns}

Welcome Back to Monday Motivation!  I have friends reminding me that Christmas is only three weeks away.  This fact has sent me into a slight tizzy of all that I should be doing to get ready for the Holiday season.  How does it get here so FAST every year?

I decided to collect some fun ornament ideas to make with the kids.  I love having projects to do with them.  Even if they complain about it now (they are kids), I know that we will look back and be happy we did them together or laugh at how awful it was. Either way, we will have time together. Time together is the important bit!

I know my kids will want to make these for the tree when the snow starts falling!  The tutorial of these Rustic Boho Twig Arrows can be found on Thoughts from Alice.

Sunday Stash #195 Alison Glass Sun Print

Last week when I was attending Sew Pro, I saw Alison Glass.  Alison is not only one of the sweetest people I have ever met, she has a uniqueness that is absolutely charming.  This quality comes through in all of her fabrics.

There is nothing that can compare to Alison's fabric collections for Andover Fabrics.  When you see her fabrics, there is no doubt that the colors and the designs are from her.  Intense, whimsical and earthy. I love this collection and I am sure you will too!

This week I chose a variety of Aurifil thread weights.  Alison is not only a quilter and wishes that her fabrics be used in many ways.  My favorite is the 28 weight that is easy to use and really makes any quilting or topstitching pop!  Love high impact threads!

Alison also now has new garment patterns!  She and pattern designer Karen LaPage designed these versatile patterns to create the perfect dress for you.  Best of all...POCKETS!  I am sold!

I will be making a woven dress very soon!

Alison sent me her new Look Book which is more like a lovely high end dream catalog.  Not sure what the words are because all of the photos are so breathtaking I could not get to the words.  This will be added to my sewing room books for inspiration purposes!

What fabrics are you sewing with this week?

Blogger's Quilt Festival {Scrappy Quilt}

I am so very excited to be able to participate in the Blogger's Quilt Festival hosted by Amy Ellis of Amy's Creative Side!

Usually when the event is happening, I am going to or returning from Quilt Market making it difficult to participate.  This year it does not coincide with Market happenings so I have the time and a quilt    ( even more exciting) to share!

My entry is for a scrappy quilt that I started four years ago with nothing in mind other than scrappy and color. It took four years and a grand baby for this UFO to find it's purpose.

This was the first block to be made using a pattern from Sylvia's Wedding Sampler.

The entire quilt is almost 100% scrappy.  There is only one fabric that was repeated.  I cannot remember which one it was now.  If I had come across it and remembered, I think I would have replaced it.

These whimsical scrappy blocks grew weekly.   Many of the centers are fussy cut which made this quilt perfect when I finally decided at the beginning of 2016 to finish it for my grand baby.

It had been made into a quilt top in 2012.  I was never completely committed to the setting and so it remained unquilted.  It was on my ladder in my sewing studio until and one day in January ( I am sure it was one of the snow days when I had nothing I could do) I grabbed it and two hours later it was completely un sewn and I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

The quilting was a simple crosshatch using Aurifil 50 wt.  You can see the precious mouse, heart and mushroom fussy cuts!  So adorable!

For quilting, I pulled out my trusty vintage Viking! Plopped it up on the dining room table and stitched my heart out!  The stitches on this machine always amaze me!

Choosing the binding was a group effort and took literally hours.  The two younger kids and I laid the quilt out on the foyer floor, I would choose some fabrics and we would vote.  The teen aged girl was over the whole process after hour three and decided just plain black.  The youngest was good with a color but we could not find one that complimented everything equally.

I went for a final dig into the stash and came up with this gorgeous Robert Kaufman print!

It was perfect!  The dark contrasting purple with tiny bits of complimenting colors throughout. By this time, we had discovered that the grand baby was a girl so the sweet flowers and birds were just right!

The absolute best thing about this quilt is the baby girl that will have it forever!

Thank you so much Amy for hosting this wonderful event again!
