ReplyDeleteWe usually stay pretty local, but maybe rent a cottage for a weekend or a week somewhere between Washington and the Oregon coast. This year we're looking at Oregon coast - something different with the kids.
ReplyDeleteSince we live on a lake and summer is the VERY best time of the year, we rarely leave home. We like to have company to enjoy the lake with us.
ReplyDeleteWow what a giveaway!!! This summer I hope to get to Canada to see my Nana and sister and the rest of the family - and do some shopping :)
ReplyDeleteWe have gone to National Parks to hike and sightsee and sometimes to the beach with my husband's family. Our son is grown now though, so our vacations don't depend on the school calendar.
ReplyDeleteGo camping with my family. Also travel as much as we can :)
ReplyDeleteHaven't taken a summer vacation recently, but used to go to the beach for the week. Now I would love a week off in the summer to sew/quilt and just relax.

ReplyDeleteSince we're retired we just do anything we feel like doing each day…travel, golf, rock hounding, off roading, sewing (me not my hubby) etc!! :)
ReplyDeleteSummer vacation time for most is my busy time. I sell my quilts and depend on tourism for that. So; I get to stay home...lol

ReplyDeleteWe are so lucky to be retired. We move to our cottage on the lake for the whole summer and see so much more of our family. I, of course, bring my sewing machine along.
ReplyDeleteI sleep in and make the kids get their own breakfast in the summer! WE also try to get to a beach at some point :)

ReplyDeleteI live in Australia so 'summer' holidays is Xmas which means a lots of Xmas activities and 6 weeks of holidays to do activities with the kids! :)
ReplyDeleteSummer vacation involves reading, eating, afternoon naps, relaxing and just winding down from the hustle and bustle of life, before it all begins again!

ReplyDeleteThis summer I hope to travel to Paris since its our 20th wedding anniversary. Otherwise I try to just relax, read and enjoy the weather.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabric!!! And can't go wrong with Aurifil! Thanks!! We normally rent out a quiet little cabin and relax!
ReplyDeleteI work during the summers, but my ideal would be three months off to sew!
ReplyDeleteSince I am off for two months during the summer, I make all my Christmas gifts then so I do not have to rush around during the holiday season.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I do is get out of town. If I am home, I keep getting called back in to work. My favorite thing to do is a cruise. There is no way they can ask me to come back to do committee work. Thanks for the chance to win the bundle and thread.
ReplyDeleteI buy quilting magazines,(and trash magazines), lots of junk food and then sit on my deck and eat and read to my hearts content.

ReplyDeleteWhat do I do on vacation? That would imply that I get a vacation! We don't do a traditional yearly vacation but we do try to go away for a camping trip a few times during the summer. ReplyDeleteWe usually stick close to home but we love going to the water park and the beach! Oh and of course a trip to the zoo ;) thanks for the chance
ReplyDeleteI normally don't do anything different during summer vacation than I do any other time of the year. Every few years, my daughter will invite me along on a road trip to visit one of my sisters, but normally, I'm home. I like it that way .. being around my own things, with access to my sewing machines and whatever else I might get a hankering to dicker with.
ReplyDeleteSummer vacation? What is that? Haven't seen one of those in years. But this year I am planning a trip with my niece to Baltimore to help her house hunt. She is in South Korea right now so I look forward to seeing her.
ReplyDeleteI hope to return to Kauai this year. Stays with you long after you leave.
ReplyDeleteI admire your initiative to clean and organize your sewing room. What fun it will be to walk in there in be 100% productive! On my summer vacation, I usually stay home and do fun things with my four-year-old granddaughter. She enjoys sitting on my lap as I sew, and operating the presser foot lever. Maybe this summer we will make a small quilt together. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWe go on short trips to the beach or wine tasting. While my husband golfs, I quilt!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. Love the fabrics.
One summer we went to Pensacola for a model railroader convention for my husband.
ReplyDeleteWeeks in advance, I emailed the Pensacola area quilt guild for "stores I shouldn't miss while there". I took my sewing machine and all my supplies.
I had a mini retreat while my husband did his thing and then we ate out at night!!!
It was awesome. I need to ask him when/where the next model railroader thing is. ;)
Marilyn in MS
I usually visit the family in Thailand, although I managed to get a great deal of quilting in last summer as well (I don't think it's quite fair to convince the parents to buy a sewing machine that would only be used by me for a few weeks a year). This year, I'm going with quilting - back at the books, so really lacking the time for the number of projects that are backing up in my mind and on my sketch pad. Hopefully we'll be in a position to start looking for our first real home by then as well! I've specified that I'm not even considering anything that doesn't have a dedicated sewing room, or hopefully, entire floor.
ReplyDeleteThanks for de-stashing!

ReplyDeleteCaught up on homeschool:-)
ReplyDeleteWe go sailing on Port Phillip Bay with friends and family.
ReplyDeleteVictoria,Australia
Traveling to see family and friends.
ReplyDeleteWe already had our vacation to Mexico in winter break. For summer we''ll stay around, local camps and pool for the kids, gardening for me
ReplyDeleteI fish and kayak for two weeks on a lake in Canada.
ReplyDeleteSit on the beach and stitch bindings on quilts!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous combo! I plan on spending lots of time in the garden with my kids and of course lots of sewing!
ReplyDeleteIf we are going to the beach I but my sewing machine in the shop for maintenance so it will be ready when I return all nice and clean...at the beach I will read, shop & do needlework by hand...if we are not doing anything in particular I will sew, read, and do hand work.....love the long summer days with plenty of time for all activities
ReplyDeleteI would love to once again travel like we did, but with a husband who has many medical problems we can no longer travel, so I just stay home and make quilts for the nursing home and hospital children's floor
ReplyDeleteNo summer vacation for me, but I try to spend some of my summer at the lake. Really, I would rather take a vacation in winter when the cold winds are blowing. Thanks for a chance.

ReplyDeleteWe go camping, as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteI'm an assistant principal and get a decent summer off so I go to the beach and pool a lot, play with kids, see movies, etc. All of the relaxing stuff I don't do enough of during the year.
ReplyDeleteDrink margaritas on the beach. Yum. Can't wait to have my toes in the sand.
ReplyDeleteI go to the beach! Any island on the east coast will do!
ReplyDeleteWe do not take a formal vacation every summer, but this year we are going to the beach for a whole week. We have rented a house and I am so excited. This will be the first time in 10 years my hubby is taking the whole week off and not just a few days to be with us.
ReplyDeleteI love to spend my summers outside enjoying the great weather! I golf, hike, take photos, quilt or read on the front deck, travel, and camp in tents.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like we are spending our summer vacations going to graduations or weddings.

We just had our Summer holidays here in Australia, and we headed down to a little place called Sandy Point, near Wilson's Prom. - the most southern point of Australia! The house we go to has been in my husband's family for over 30 years and we love that the kids can ride their bikes around safely, it's a short walk to the beach. There's also an abundance of wildlife - guaranteed to see koalas and echidnas and possums regularly! Thanks for the great giveaway!

Week-long summer vacations do not happen very often with us, but we do take long weekends every once in a while. We love going to a family member's camp located on 1200 acres all by itself on the top of the mountain and spend those days riding ATVs, shooting guns, and enjoying quality time with family members without the distractions of all the electronics,i.e. TV, computer, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe go to the Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota so basicly we go play on our bikes for 2 or 4 weeks

ReplyDeleteThere are several things I like to do on my summer vacation. I sew, and do/plan other crafts as well. I also enjoy traveling, and try to get somewhere every year, even if it isn't terribly far away. ReplyDeleteInstead of vacations during the summer we like to visit the beach for long weekends in the spring and fall...not as crowded and not as hot. Thank you for sharing!

ReplyDeleteI've never really had a summer vacation since I went to summer camp as a kid. If there's a family event out of town, we'll maybe go a day early and/or stay an extra day. And I always check out any quilt shops I might come across along the way, of course. -- soparkaveataoldotcom
