How to Make Fancy Fabric Dress Notecards

I am always astounded by the incredible variety of inspiration that can be found on Pinterest!

This past weekend, I stumbled on a tutorial for how to make a Book Print Dress card that came with a sweet template.

That is when I had an A-HA! moment! I have literally bins and bins of fabric scraps of all kinds, why not make fabric dresses!

Grab some of your favorite fabric scraps and a few other items for this How to Make Fabric Fancy Fabric Dress Notecards!

To make this as simple as possible, I decided to make mine for only the things I have on hand. No running to Michael's, Hobby Lobby or Joann's needed. After making the cards, I do think that the next time I am out and about, I must pick up some bling for the strapless cocktail dress.

The most difficult decision was choosing the fabrics for the dresses! So much fabric!

I want to make sure it worked with a variety of fabrics, so I chose a Liberty of London print, a lovely vintage floral that feels like it *may* be barkcloth but not 100% sure, and the third is a fun and colorful quilter's cotton.

The other items you will need:

Printer paper
Dress template from Homemade Gifts Made Easy.
Cards, a heavier card stock, or pre-packaged cards.
Fabric scraps roughly 4.5"x4.5" square
Adhesive. I used Elmer's, Craft Bond for ease of use and fast drying time.
Variety of embellishments. I was lacking anything fancy so grabbed pretty vintage ribbons. You really cannot go wrong with vintage ribbon!

Print the template out and trim your chosen fabric pieces with a little extra. This helps to give you wiggle room when you are placing the template on the fabric.

Place the template on the wrong side of the fabric and the printed side up.

It is time to glue the paper template to the fabric.

*** Spray adhesive is atomized glue. When using, please take the necessary precautions. I go outside, wear safety goggles, and use a mask.***

Spray the back of the template. It only takes a tiny and quick spray. Think ONE! TWO! DONE! and place it on the piece of fabric. Make sure that there are no wrinkles

Allow the glue to dry completely, grab your scissors and cut the pieces out.

They are already adorable! Time to take this party to the next level! This is where the magic happens!

Flip the skirt over and start folding. I have a metal ruler to help with making more precision folds. This is not necessary but if you have one, they are pretty cool. This one was the in house engineer's from his college days so I think it is now considered vintage 😂

When making your folds, make sure to really press down to make them crisp!

This is the time to figure out your ribbon or embellishments that you will be using for the dress to fancy it up!

As previously mentioned,  I have only the basics on hand. I made one basic sash and one ribbon. I need to seriously need to work on my ribbon making skills!

Almost done!

Layout the pieces on the card. When you like how it looks, use a q-tip and a little spray glue or even a glue stick to secure your dress pieces on to the card.

These cards are 100% fun to make, take almost no time at all, and are ridiculously satisfying!

If you make some, I'd love to see them! Please share on your favorite socials and be sure to tag @gogokim!

Such a cute idea! I think I'd use freezer paper instead of regular paper to skip the gluing to the fabric stage.

Do you know any postcard quilters?
