Monday Motivation Maggie's First Dance Quilt Top!

This is the last post for the Maggie's First Dance Block of the Month by Jacquelynne Steves.  It has been so much fun and a new learning experience for me with thread painting.  I have enjoyed it thoroughly!

It is time to finish up the quilt top!

I finished mine up just in time to take about two photos before the sun set.  I had completely forgotten about the time change and that the sun sets at 5 pm EST!  I will be trying to get more photos in better light later this week.

Look at the lovely quilt top!  I will have to put some thought into how to quilt it with the thread painted blocks.

The colors of the beautiful Katie Jump Rope and the thread painting using Aurifil thread did not come through properly on the last minute photos at all!

And then there was the wind!!  The Monument is my favorite place to take photo but it always has gusts of wind to make the teenager hate taking photos even more!

Doesn't she look thrilled?

If you missed the thread painted blocks, you can find out how I started them by visiting The First BOM post here.

I used only Aurifil thread of this project. Here are some of the colors I used.

Make sure to stop by and visit the other bloggers for this event! Say HELLO and see how they are creating their blocks!  Variety is the spice of life :o)

  1. Am I first - or are you moderating comments? I love to bake cakes with a nice icing/frosting made from scratch. My grandmother taught me to bake cakes as she had a stroke and could not do it for herself anymore. Being diabetic, holidays and birthdays are the only times I bake cakes now.

I am so enjoying pumpkin soup at the moment, here in the UK they say only 6% of all pumpkins sold are eaten the others are carved, they do not know what they are missing and now I add coconut milk to the soup it is even more delicious

  33. Our favorite holiday treat is Caramel Corn made from Old Dutch Puff Corn. Follow the recipe on the bag but instead of 1 bag, use 1 1/2 bags. Less chewy. By far my family's fav!

  36. love all the different fabric choices used in the quilts. On Christmas Day my sister in law cooks a traditional English lunch. Roast turkey and pork with all the trimmings, followed by hot home made plum pudding with custard. The children will not let us change. I live in Australia, so it is often very hot, so thank goodness for aircon. On lesser occasions I make a great cheesecake, and prefer to do the baked ones. Now 2.10 am so I am off to bed.

  45. I don't normally have a favorite holiday goody. But I do take requests from my children what they would like. They are all adults and it is so nice to have them home on the holidays so I try to treat them with a couple of things they carry home with them.

  46. Favorite treat candied nuts, I cook an amazing Szechuan turkey!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I make a cinnamon apple cider in an electric coffee pot for my square dance friends every year at Christmas. They asked every year when I am going to bring my hot cider to dance. It is easy to do, you can 6 cups of apple juice, 1 12oz can Sprite or 7up. Pour in an electric coffee pot. In the coffee basket, you add 1/2 cup red hot candies, about 20 pieces of cloves, and 2 sticks of cinnamon. Let it perk and you have a beautiful red cup of hot cider.

  48. For Thanksgiving we do the traditional turkey and or ham; Campbell's green bean casserole; pumpkin pie; scalloped corn; yam apple cranberry casserole; candied apples a recipe from my mom-in-law; mulled wine; water, and juice for the non-drinkers. This year we will be trying new things as one in our group has developed a severe gluten allergy. This is a new one for us. If any of your readers has GOOD recipes that are gluten free please share with me at enclosed email.

We are not consistent in treats for the holidays always have cookies but not always the same kinds; always some decorated sugar cookies; often a spiced cookie that is milder than ginger snaps; cherry winks from a 1950s recipe my mom and aunt made made. Candies may include buckeyes; fudge; peanut butter cups; we don't make anything complicated!

  57. My family's favourite which they implore me to make each year is a Christmas fruit cake where the fruit is marinated for at least a week in a famous orange flavoured brandy. The cake is then macerated in the same indulgent brandy each week for a month. The cake lasts forever - well it should but rarely lasts a week or two.

This year we decided to skip cooking for the holidays, we're going to be making reservations instead.

  65. Seasonal treats have to include chocolate with whatever the prevailing treat is. Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, July 4th, Mother's Day and especially Halloween all involve chocolate. Won't be cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year as I'm having wrist surgery on the Monday before. It's time for my daughters to take care of (cook for) me!
