Monday Motivation {Sew Along and Block of the Month}

Welcome back to Monday Motivation!  Trying to get back into the groove now that school is back in session, I thought it would be fun to compile a great bunch of Challenges, Block of the Month, Sew Alongs and partridge in a pear tree ( not really) but instead a quilting bee!!!!

Having a new project to do is always a blast! It is even more exciting when there is a community of online friends to sew along with and get support of needed.

Hold onto your hats and get ready to SEW!  Here are a few Sew Alongs, Quilt Alongs, Challenges and Block of the Month's for you to have fun in 2017.

Alyce from Blossom Heart Quilts is hosting a gorgeous Paper Piecing Block of the Month called Milky Way Sampler!

"Milky Way is a paper pieced sampler, and just like with the half-square triangle blocks, we’re starting with easy blocks, and working our way towards slightly more complicated blocks (but still not that complicated, I promise). They’re 10″ finished blocks, although the magic of foundation paper piecing means that if you desired, you could make them smaller or larger… But that’s a topic for another day."

This BOM is free for the release month of the block then fee based after. You can read all of the details by visiting here.

Kim Lapack from Persimion Dreams is hosting her 8th Project Quilting!  To learn more about how you can participate, visit here.

"Project QUILTING is a series of six, one-week challenges that happen over a 12 week period at the start of each year.  The quilt challenge is posted right here on my blog on Sunday’s (in 2017 those exact days are: January 1st, 15th, 29th, February 12th, 26th, and March 12th)."

Pat Sloan has started the new year with a whole new site and a FAB new Mystery Quilt Block!  The One Hundred Eighty-Two Day Solstice Challenge has already started but you can hop on NOW by visiting here.

The Aurifil Designer Block of the Month is a free Block of the Month organized by Pat Sloan ( Pat is a very busy lady).  It is a free BOM and starts 15 January.  This year the theme is rainbow!  You can find out more about this Block of the Month by visiting here.

Chocolatier Block of the Month Club (starts Jan. 2017)

"Do you have a stash of chocolate in your sewing room? Celebrate your love of chocolate in the Chocolatier BOM. Enjoy piecing traditional skill-building blocks set in a LeMoyne Star destined to look like shiny wrapped chocolates.  An argyle compass emphasizes the star's beauty and it's all framed with a beautiful bracelet border. "

To join this Block of the Month ( there is a fee) please visit AnneMarie at GenX Quilters here.

There is also a Honey Pot Bee hosted by Molli Sparkles!
This year long event has fantastic Kings and Queens and has a bit of twist.

"You get none of the sting, and all of the sticky goodness! Each month there are two queens (and/or kings, but for the sake of brevity will be called queens) who decide on The Honey Pot Bee block patterns. Each queen picks one, I announce them to the world, then each participating member (Princesses and Princes) can choose to make one of each or two of the same. Each member then keeps the blocks for themselves."

Find out more about how you can participate here.

Julie from Intrepid Thread is hosting three fee based BOM/Sewalongs.   I am sharing the Urbanologie BOM. To find out the information for all three please visit here.

"First We have the Urbanologie BOM created by Sew Kind Of Wonderful to use with their QCR Mini Ruler. I am so happy I went to their Schoolhouse at Market I am in love with these quilts. I love sewing curves and I promise once you learn Jenny's way you will love it too."

The wonderful Sarah Fielke is hosting a fee based Block of the Month!

"After the success of the 2016 BOM, Happy Days, I am so excited to introduce the 2017 quilt, Down the Rabbit Hole.

This classic, whimsical quilt will translate well to modern or traditional fabrics. There will be the option of rabbits, cats or floral motifs for the final border - I know that not everyone likes a bunny. :)"

You can watch the video for more information and sign up for this BOM by visiting here.

Amy Gibson from Stitchery Dickory Dock is hosting a fun Quilt Along on her blog from her book The CookBook Quilt!

"Go snag a copy of The Quilt Block Cookbook (or buy a signed copy from me here), stock your kitchen (aka: round up some yummy fabrics!) and join along as we stitch up 50 blocks in 50 weeks this year.  Whether you’re looking for some skill building, a bit of creative inspiration, or just love the camaraderie of the online quilting community, this is the quilt along for you.  We’ll be cooking up 50 blocks but it’s up to you what you do with your blocks (pssst…this means you can sew what you love, and nothing you don’t!).  I’ll be offering up fun and creative ideas for you all along the way…from sampler quilt layouts, both modern and traditional, to one and two block quilt ideas, to non-quilt ways to use your blocks.  Versatile, easy-to-make blocks with lots of charm, paired with loads of tips and design inspiration to kick your patchwork habit into overdrive in 2017."
Check out how you can join in on the party here.

Cindy Staub from Quilt Doodle Designs has a Traditional Mystery Block of the Month!

"I have a new BOM for 2017. It's going to be fun to follow along. I have decided it's time to switch things up a bit and step away from a holiday quilt and make one that can be left out all year round. So for this year we will make a more traditional quilt using some 'traditional' fabrics. I will be using some 1930 reproductions for mine. It will be a bright and happy quilt that reminds me of the farm and grandma's house. To get ready for this quilt I have included a list of supplies below and the layout of the quilt. It will be a combination of piecing and applique. The base the design is a traditional Dresden plate. "

Find out more about this BOM here.

If you have been waiting to start a Dear Jane quilt, Paper Pieces has put together a Dear Jane pack for you to have everything you need to create this beauty!  They have organized a Facebook group for ongoing support as well.  You can find all of the information by visiting here.

Fat Quarter Shop is once again hosting a charity Quilt Along.  Kimberly is amazing with her support of the organizations with the help of generous quilters!

"Our Patchwork Quilt Along benefits Make-A-Wish. This fantastic organization grants the wishes of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Make-A-Wish believes a wish experience can be a game-changer. Granted wishes help children feel stronger, more energetic, and more willing to face their medical battle, and for many the wish marks a turning point in the fight against their illnesses! "

To sew along and help support this very worthwhile cause please visit here.

Angie from Gnome Angel is hosting a coordinated Sew Along with The Quilters Planner!

"Of the many amazing features in The Quilter’s Planner the one that I’m excited about sharing with you is the weekly block. On every week page of the planner is a block design that links to a block tutorial. Click here to see them. That’s a whopping 52 blocks for free when you get The Quilter’s Planner (not to mention all the other stuff that’s in there as well!). I’m a big believer in keeping your skills sharp and investing time in your craft. What better way to do that then with setting aside dedicated sewing time each week! Do you see where I’m going with this? You’ve got The Quilter’s Planner which is all about being more organised and proactively managing things. You’ve got a free block tutorial. You need to sew to keep your sanity. It’s like the perfect recipe for a sew-along! Right?!?"
