We usually stay pretty local, but maybe rent a cottage for a weekend or a week somewhere between Washington and the Oregon coast. This year we're looking at Oregon coast - something different with the kids.
Since we live on a lake and summer is the VERY best time of the year, we rarely leave home. We like to have company to enjoy the lake with us.

With 4 children I count the days until school starts again. HA! We vacay every other summer to Lake Okoboji for a family reunion, so much fun! This summer we're hoping to visit family in San Diego.
I love taking the kids to splash parks (they are all over the place here in Utah, I wonder if you have them in VA?). I also love to wakeboard and won't likely turn down an opportunity to go out on the lake. ;)
We are so lucky to be retired. We move to our cottage on the lake for the whole summer and see so much more of our family. I, of course, bring my sewing machine along.
I sleep in and make the kids get their own breakfast in the summer! WE also try to get to a beach at some point :)

I live in Australia so 'summer' holidays is Xmas which means a lots of Xmas activities and 6 weeks of holidays to do activities with the kids! :)

Since I am off for two months during the summer, I make all my Christmas gifts then so I do not have to rush around during the holiday season.

We head to Warwick Rhode Island for Ballroom Dance Camp. We have met the best people in the world there. This summer will be our 6th time going.
Depending on where we're living, we go somewhere we haven't been before. So, we've gone from Disneyland, to Vegas, to ABQ. Who knows what's next?
Usually a trip to Michigan to see our grandkids and attend a quilt show .. I would love to make a trip to Montreal, Canada, where my son is, and where I used to live, it is so beautiful there
well last year we built a house. Usually not a lot. We may have a long weekend in Branson, but usually we hang out on our farm by the creek and watch kids play. Fun!
What do I do on vacation? That would imply that I get a vacation! We don't do a traditional yearly vacation but we do try to go away for a camping trip a few times during the summer. We always do a family beach trip, but this year, we are taking my parents to the Grand Canyon for their 50th wedding anniversary. It's on their bucket list.

I normally don't do anything different during summer vacation than I do any other time of the year. Every few years, my daughter will invite me along on a road trip to visit one of my sisters, but normally, I'm home. I like it that way .. being around my own things, with access to my sewing machines and whatever else I might get a hankering to dicker with.
Summer vacation? What is that? Haven't seen one of those in years. But this year I am planning a trip with my niece to Baltimore to help her house hunt. She is in South Korea right now so I look forward to seeing her.

I admire your initiative to clean and organize your sewing room. What fun it will be to walk in there in be 100% productive! On my summer vacation, I usually stay home and do fun things with my four-year-old granddaughter. She enjoys sitting on my lap as I sew, and operating the presser foot lever. One summer we went to Pensacola for a model railroader convention for my husband.
Weeks in advance, I emailed the Pensacola area quilt guild for "stores I shouldn't miss while there". I took my sewing machine and all my supplies.
I had a mini retreat while my husband did his thing and then we ate out at night!!!
It was awesome. I need to ask him when/where the next model railroader thing is. ;)

I usually visit the family in Thailand, although I managed to get a great deal of quilting in last summer as well (I don't think it's quite fair to convince the parents to buy a sewing machine that would only be used by me for a few weeks a year). This year, I'm going with quilting - back at the books, so really lacking the time for the number of projects that are backing up in my mind and on my sketch pad. Hopefully we'll be in a position to start looking for our first real home by then as well! I've specified that I'm not even considering anything that doesn't have a dedicated sewing room, or hopefully, entire floor.

If we are going to the beach I but my sewing machine in the shop for maintenance so it will be ready when I return all nice and clean...at the beach I will read, shop & do needlework by hand...if we are not doing anything in particular I will sew, read,and do hand work.....love the long summer days with plenty of time for all activities
I would love to once again travel like we did, but with a husband who has many medical problems we can no longer travel, so I just stay home and make quilts for the nursing home and hospital children's floor

I'm more of a staycationer so I usually try to stay at home to relax, organize, and most importantly craft! Now that I have a kid that might change, but probably not for a few years.
For summer vacation, we usually go to the beach with our family. Normally it is in the Ft. Walton Beach or Destin area.
I love sitting on the patio drinking coffee and watching the waves. So relaxing!
This summer we will be hosting another Japanese girl again! :) It's very exciting and we're looking forward to it again!
Our summer vacation this year will be in the fall. Paris and a visit to the quilt shop near Notre Dame, Milan and who knows some Aurifil purchased in Italy then back to the states via trans Atlantic cruise.

We do not take a formal vacation every summer, but this year we are going to the beach for a whole week. We have rented a house and I am so excited. This will be the first time in 10 years my hubby is taking the whole week off and not just a few days to be with us.

We just had our Summer holidays here in Australia, and we headed down to a little place called Sandy Point, near Wilson's Prom. - the most southern point of Australia! The house we go to has been in my husband's family for over 30 years and we love that the kids can ride their bikes around safely, it's a short walk to the beach. There's also an abundance of wildlife - guaranteed to see koalas and echidnas and possums regularly! Thanks for the great giveaway!

We usually go away twice in the summer. Our usually haunts are Lancaster PA, Lake George NY or Weirs Beach NH. We always have a great time and I always find 1or 2 wonderful quilt shops.

Since I am a Young Adult Librarian in a public library, a summer vacation is pretty much out of the question for me. During the summer I host 40+ programs for teens during the Young Adult Summer Reading Program. I might not be on the beach somewhere, but it sure is fun! ;)

We live on one coast and my brother lives on the other. We decide where to meet and all hang out together. Best times ever! :)
My hubs won't take a week off in summer (he owns a landscaping business), but sometimes I'll take my mom somewhere with me. Someplace we've not been before. Last year, it was a week-long train trip from KY to MT and back. An adventure, for SURE!

Week-long summer vacations do not happen very often with us, but we do take long weekends every once in a while. We love going to a family member's camp located on 1200 acres all by itself on the top of the mountain and spend those days riding ATVs, shooting guns, and enjoying quality time with family members without the distractions of all the electronics,i.e. TV, computer, etc.
We go to the Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota so basicly we go play on our bikes for 2 or 4 weeks

If I get a chance to go on a trip it will probably be going to MN as there are lots of family I haven't see in a long time.

I mostly work and work on my garden while being frustrated that nothing ripens before autumn rains, unless it does and the racoons and birds eat it first!

Summer vacation for us always means tons of time at the pool. Both of my kiddos swim on a summer league and then love to spend the rest of their time playing in the water :-)
There are several things I like to do on my summer vacation. I sew, and do/plan other crafts as well. I also enjoy traveling, and try to get somewhere every year, even if it isn't terribly far away. Last, but by NO means least, I make sure my daughter has some activities to do so that she lets me get to my sewing... at least some of the time.
The last 4 years we have had to stay home because my husband was going though chemo, and the last couple of years are folks have been sick.
Its been so long since Ive had one I wouldn't know what to do. This year I do plan on visiting my family in Michigan in May... so I guess thats kinda a summer vacation.
This summer we are taking our first family road trip. We're planning to make stops at the royal gorge, four corners, Hoover dam, and the Grand Canyon. Can't wait.

The Mister and I pretend that we're snowbirds, jump in the motorhome and leave the Arizona heat behind as we head north to Oregon and then to South Dakota. We can't be official snowbirds until the kids all graduate and leave the nest... because then we can avoid ALL of the Arizona heat, rather than just two months of it!

Mini summer vacations for me. Last summer, I attended my first Pacific Northwest Modern Quilt Guild Meet-Up in Portland (Oregon) and also went over to Bend for a Norah Jones concert. This year, the meet-up is in Vancouver (Canada!!), so the hubs and I are going on a road trip! And will also head over to Bend again, this time to see Jack Johnson! Awesome giveaway!!!!

Summer is always a working season for my hubby, we haven't vacationed during that time of year, since my grown sons were in grammar school. At least I have a pool to vacation in!

being retired one day is much like another, I do not get to go away for proper holidays, last time was in 2001 when I went to Australia for 3 months, maybe it is time to go away again!

We are planning a major home remodel, so will have to stay close to home (although we are going to move out for 4 months). Lots of packing/sorting/unpacking and deciding stuff. I'm hoping to get away for a week to see my mom & dad in Milwaukee, Wisconsin around my birthday. Other than that, it will be camping trips.
