I'm planning on finishing up some quilts this summer in my nice cool basement :D My kids are grown and I don't have grandies yet so I sew for the g-niece/nephews and the neighbour kids. Try finger puppets! Easy to make (even the kids can do the simple ones), and suit a wide age range - I made them for a baby (for his parents, of course) right up to a 6 year old - everybody loved them. I'm also doing beanbags with letter appliques on them to spell out the kids' names - those are gifts that I think will go over really well :D

One thing I always do with my kiddos is what I call Graffiti Camp. That's when I hang a plain white sheet on the fence out back. I fill spray bottles with colored water and dress my boys in their swim trunks. It always good fun. Its just my way of raising up little menaces to society - Ha!

Fun summer things to do with kids--I used to be a stay at home mom, and our best investment every year was a small pool, so they could play in the water while swinging and blowing bubbles, etc. We also went to the park a lot, and the library, and made crafts on rainy days. Oh, how I loved rainy days. It was nice to sit down inside once in a while.
